CROSS DRESSING

Watching an episode of Andrew Mukamel's Today's Look, about the men currently breaking down barriers by wearing womenswear; as featured by Bill Cunningham in the New York Times, got me inspired about the new culture we are entering into. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to wear whatever I want, when 50 years ago I would have been punished for wearing something as basic as trousers. Men are still going through this change but the end is in sight, with Bill predicting it will take just 10 years for the liberation of this generation to spread to the masses. It's exciting that this is happening in our lifetime, and soon we will see gender free dressing for all.

So here's a little tribute to some of my favourite menswear bloggers who are changing history; Pelayo, Michael and Andrew.

SHOPPING WITH MR PORTER

There's a first time for everything and last week it was being invited to a menswear event, not strictly for men of course but never the less it was exciting to see so many dapper looking gentleman in one room. Mr. Porter, (the Net a Porter for men) were showcasing their S/S collections about to go online at the super chic Hix in Soho. The cocktails were strong and the bites were small -which you'd sort of expect for a mens evening, as we browsed the new lines and accessories it was exciting to see the mix of traditional and modern; printed Givenchy tees next to pebbled leather brogues, if I was a man Mr Porter would be my go to for everything! This was confirmed the next day when I found a little voucher in my goody bag, my fantasy male shopping continued.. 

I was super impressed with how easy it was to navigate the site, especially as you upload your gift voucher and it's on there, whenever you need it to be deducted at the checkout. I settled on some new Converse Jack Purcell's, I have to say I've lived in them since I bought them! A lot of my friends have been doing double takes, as I'm not a trainer girl at all, I just love the minimal monochrome look as well as them being comfy and chic to run around London in. Thank you so much Mr Porter!

JAMES LONG SS12

I've seen James Long every season for the last 3 years and every time there is a real evolution of ideas; season by season he refines his ideas into spectacular key pieces that you would kill to own. This year it was quite obvious at LFW that designers were having to rethink their ideas and shift their full attention to selling. I think James got this spot on, and we were left with a S/S 12 collection that had all the excitement of earlier collections but with refinement and total wearability. My eyes were firmly on a plush brown leather jacket in snakeskin print with matching shorts, metallic unravelling knits, a leather foil patchwork jacket and metallic snake print jumpers. Insanely good.

THE MEN ON MENSWEAR DAY

Always my favourite day of fashion week, menswear day. It always seems calmer (although not so much this season!) and there are much more personal style gems for keen eyes to spot.

KATIE EARY AW11

Super excited about Katie Eary introducing womenswear alongside her new AW 11 collection, inspired by hammer horror with a 1950's punk/rockabilly twist. My favourite piece from the collection was a pair of green foil trousers that made the best crackling sound as the model strode around the room.
