INDIVIDUAL STYLE UNITED SPIRIT COMPETITION

Wearing: Dior sunglasses, Aquascutum shirt, Charlie May skirts, Dr Martens leather tote and shoes
I've teamed up with one of my favourite brands Dr Martens to run a style competition celebrating INDIVIDUAL STYLE UNITED SPIRIT. I'm representing the heels range, which actually I've never gone for before now, but I'm loving these slip on loafers! The slimline leather tote has been used every day since I got it too, it's perfect for fitting in an extra jacket, notebooks and even ferrying half made garments to and from the studios!
To enter the competition all you have to do is post a photograph of yourself in your 'Dr Marten's style' to twitter or instagram, making sure you @charliemay and @drmartens #FIRSTANDFOREVER. I will be choosing the winner, so feel free to butter me up all you like.
The winner will receive £500 to spend on DrMartens.com and an all expenses paid trip to the original factory with me on 8th October!
I'm really looking forward to seeing your outfits; I'll be picking the winner on September 10th, good luck everyone!

How much of a serious girl crush does everyone have on Alice Dellal? Such a perfect face for Dr Marten!

MUTED PALETTE

Wearing: Vintage trench from Rokit, Ann Demeulemeester jacket and shoes, Charlie May shirt, Acne trousers, Moxham taba bracelet, Alexander Wang bag, Dior sunglasses
So in love with these thick wool Acne trousers I picked up at the last sample sale, I don't think I've had the chance to put them on the blog and LFW seemed like the perfect time. LFW has been totally distorted for me this year, struggling between going to the shows as usual or staying in bed and recovering from the presentation that happened on Saturday, I think I opted for the last option on most days and it will probably get more and more that way each season. But that's ok as my brand is so much more exciting!
Thanks to Jen for the snaps

In other news the winner of the Le Specs/ Sunglass shop comp is...
MAGGIE from Love Scrapbook!
Congratulations on winning some cool new sunnies in time for Spring!

ART DECO

I couple of months ago I was invited to the Arcadia headquarters to meet the winner of the Dorothy Perkins print design award, Charis Younger. Charis designed a beautiful art deco feather print in different sizes and colours to accompany her high summer collection, for the Dorothy Perkins consumer. I always think it's amazing for any brand to put out competitions giving students a chance to gain real experience and contacts in the industry. Charis is obviously very talented and I had so much fun chatting away with her and Rachel from DP. My favourite piece from the collection is the jumper of course, feels a bit Balenciaga to me. Thank you both for having me!
The mini collection is available to buy online and in selected stores now.

PS - How beautiful are Rachel's shoes that she scored at the Topshop sample sale for £5?!

SELFRIDGES SHOE GALLERIES

As part of Selfridges exciting new shoe galleries set to be opening on the 16th September, they have asked me to tell my shoe story, and yours too!
It can be frustrating not having all the designers you love in one place when your on a spree, and now we have the answer!
The shoe galleries is set to be the single biggest shoe destination in the world; housing 150 designers with 55,000 pairs of shoes in stock at any one time, and 4,000 on display.

Part of the inspiration behind the galleries was that every one of us has a shoe story, whether it's your cherished favourite pair, or the pair that cost a months rent.
Tell your shoe story on Selfridges and you could win a years supply of shoes!!
Wowzaaa, I hope that 356 pairs!
"Imagine you are in a gallery", says Selfridges' Director of Accessories Sebastian Manes. "From the entrance you see a succession of doorways, and at the end a huge window flooding the space with daylight. Your journey begins at the front, with shoes from the best of the high street. Slowly you begin to travel through different galleries until you reach the end – the couture designer gallery, flanked by Chanel and Louboutin, and a vision of Eden – the new suspended garden at Selfridges. Shoe heaven!"

The galleries look stunning, I am so excited!

COCO & IGOR

The new Chanel film entitled Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky (set roughly before the film Coco before Chanel) chronicles the love affair between the fashion icon and 'renegade' composer.
No one will ever replace Audrey Tattoo as Coco in my mind but, Anna Mouglalis, accomplished actress and longtime muse to Karl Lagerfeld is set to play the starring role. She will also be featuring in the upcoming Chanel fine jewellery campaigns. Igor is set to be played by Mads Mikkelsen, who you might recognise as the Bond character "Le Chiffre", from Casino Royale.
For the costumes, Karl Lagerfeld has designed some original garments, including Coco's dress in the opening Rite of Spring scenes, whilst CHANEL has lent several original garments and accessories to be worn by Mademoiselle Anna Mouglalis in the role of Mademoiselle Chanel.
The film looks set to be romantic, charming and completely unmissable!
To celebrate the release of the film on August 6th, Soda Pictures have teamed up with Judy's Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair to give fashionistas the chance to win a stylish shopping experience.
Each winner will receive £100 and an afternoon with their own personal stylist whose vintage expertise will help them to find an outfit worthy of Coco herself.

Sportwear Fans! Anyone for tennis?

"The winner of the first prize is Eva Lai who is studying BA (Hons) Fashion Contour. Her design is a re-working of one of the brand’s most iconic products, the tennis dress. The contour of the bodice echoes the curves of a tennis ball while the white lines of the tennis court sculpt the body. Layers of pleats reveal the rich heritage of the brand from 1959 to the present day whilst capturing the energy of the sport and movement of tennis players. "

"Second prize winner was Diana Auria Harris who also studies on BA (Hons) Fashion Contour. Diana’s design, a structural dress with an exaggerated silhouette was inspired by the ellesse logo. Third prize was won by Alex Green whose design was influenced by futurism and the work of Hussein Chalayan."

I know this isn't usually the sort of thing I blog about, but after being contacted about the competition I thought it's actually quite a good opportunity, you win €4,500 and a trip to Rome!
Ellesse have already commissioned London College of Fashion students from BA (Hons) Fashion Contour and BA (Hons) Active Sportswear students to design a garment that reflects the brand’s heritage in tennis, but they want as many clever interpretations of the brief
as possible. So the competition has been left open.
So, all you sportswear fans, get designing!

These is my favourite piece of art that's been submitted, but i don't think it won...

"Create a piece of art or design to commemorate the ellesse 50th Anniversary inspired by the brand’s Italian heritage and sporting roots in tennis.

ellesse turns 50 this year and celebrates with the design competition Create Tennis Art. What do you have to do? Create a piece of art or design inspired by the ellesse heritage in tennis; the tennis dress, the bold advertising, the half ball logo. Whatever excites you the most! Categories include fashion and textiles, fine art, sculpture, street art, graphic design and digital. So anything goes.

You could win €4,500 and a trip to the ellesse 50th anniversary event this summer in Rome where your work will be on show."

Check out more on the competition here and here

The deadline is 10/5/09

Good Luck!
